Pernambuco Republicans end support for Lula

The Republicans in Pernambuco declared on Thursday (9) support for the pre-candidacy of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The information was released through a note on social media from the state directory, signed by the regional president, the former Minister of Ports and Airports Silvio Costa Filho.

The Pernambuco branch decided to join the PT party despite the national directory not yet having formalized a position on support. In addition to Lula, support for the pre-candidacy for the state government of an ally of the president, the former mayor of Recife João Campos (PSB), is also stated.

In the note, it is said that there are states that defend a coalition with the PT, while some preach for independence and others for the pre-candidacy of the name of the PL (Liberal Party), senator Flávio Bolsonaro (RJ), who will speak on a platform in São Paulo with governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

"Regardless of the position that the National Executive takes, in Pernambuco - as we have always done - we will be voting for President Lula and the pre-candidate for the government of Pernambuco, João Campos", highlights the text.

The alliance's desire had already been expressed by the federal deputy last Wednesday (1st) in an exclusive interview with CNN Brasil. During the conversation, Silvio Costa Filho had not yet formalized his support, citing the acronym's final decision after the ongoing conversation process with the state benches.

When justifying his position, he cited reasons of gratitude and political trajectory.

"I learned in life that gratitude is returned with gratitude and I am very grateful to President Lula, especially because I have been voting for President Lula since I was part of the student movement, still at university, back in my state of Pernambuco", he said at the time.

Right now, there is a debate in the National Executive about the direction the party will take in this year's electoral process.

There are states that defend a formal coalition with President Lula - as is the case of Pernambuco -, other states defend independence and others a coalition with the PL candidate.
