The Pentagon is closed for security reasons
The Pentagon was closed due to a threat with "hazardous materials" this Thursday (11), according to local emergency teams. Several floors of the building, headquarters of the US Department of Defense and Intelligence, were also evacuated.
At around 1pm, however, the TV network CNN stated that the incident was a false alarm, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

Earlier, the Pentagon spokesperson had stated that there had been an incident involving air quality, without giving further details. The Fire Department even sent a team specialized in hazardous materials to the scene.
"The Pentagon has sophisticated systems to ensure the safety of the building and its occupants. These systems detected an air quality problem that requires precautionary measures until we determine its severity," said Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell in an email.
The incident occurs on the official opening day of the 2026 World Cup, which will be played in the United States, Mexico and in Canada, already marked by the tensions of Donald Trump's anti-immigration policies and amid a sharp escalation of the war between the United States and Iran in the Middle East.
The Pentagon serves as the command and intelligence center for the US Armed Forces, the most powerful in the world. The building is located in the state of Virginia, but is next to the capital Washington and about 15 minutes by car from the White House.
