Penélope Cruz says she will learn to drive after winning Bono's car

Actress Penélope Cruz, 52, said she will finally try driving after receiving a car as a gift from her friend Bono, 66, lead singer of U2.

The actress revealed that she has never ventured onto the streets because she is too afraid of driving, but now she has promised that she will give driving another chance.

While appearing on the YouTube show "Hot Ones", Penélope explained: "My friend Bono gave me a car for my last birthday... It sounds crazy, but he gave me a car, and I think that's kind of the ultimate push for me to do this [learn to drive]."

"Once you get a car from Bono, how can you not get your driver's license? It's crazy, right? So now I'm thinking about it again, but it's such a deep fear."

"Every time I get in a car, I think, 'Okay, here we go. Are we going to make it in one piece or not?'" he added.

Penélope added that she believes her fear of driving is, in fact, a phobia, as being in a car, even for a short time, causes her anxiety.

The star had also previously revealed that her fear may come from a childhood trauma, when she saw her sister, Monica, being hit by a car. Monica has fully recovered, but the memory of the accident still haunts Penélope.

In an interview with ELLE magazine, she said: "I'm afraid of driving. My sister was run over in front of me when I was eight or nine years old."

"I remember she was wearing a red coat... And, for me, time stopped. It's a very big trauma, because I saw her losing consciousness."
