Pedro Ortaça, singer and composer from Rio Grande do Sul, dies aged 83

Singer and composer Pedro Ortaça died, aged 83, this Friday (29). On social media, singer Marianita Ortaça, Pedro's daughter, confirmed the death and published a farewell.

In the publication, the daughter wrote: "He will always be the most beautiful example of resilience, courage, strength. Thank you, my father. God bless you." In addition to Marianita, he is also the father of singers Gabriel Ortaça and Alberto Ortaça, the result of his relationship with Rose Ortaça, to whom he dedicated his song "Companheira".

Born in Rio Grande do Sul, Pedro Marques Ortaça is a Brazilian singer, composer and guitarist of nativist music, who has hits such as "Timbre de Galo" and "Bailanta do Tiburcio".

He is part of the four artists called Troncos Missioneiros, alongside Jayme Caetano Braun, Cenair Maicá and Noel Guarany.

In 2025, he received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Federal University of Pampa and the Federal University of Santa Maria for his contributions. Furthermore, he is Master of Brazilian Popular Culture, awarded by the Ministry of Culture.
