Revealed by Corinthians, Paulo Sérgio had great success in his international career. Featured by Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen as a player, the now former athlete acts as an official ambassador for Bayer Leverkusen and is also the founder and manager of the Bayer 04 Football Academy in Brazil.

In an exclusive interview with Central do Timão, the 1994 world champion revealed that he tried to bring Leverkusen to do their pre-season activities with Timão, however, he received no response, and that's why he ended up reaching an agreement with Flamengo.

Central do Timão
"Last year I brought Bayer Leverkusen to do pre-season in Brazil and I told the directors (of Corinthians) if I could do it here. I didn't get a response. And then, I did it at Ninho do Urubu, at Flamengo", he revealed.

"I took the players to do the pre-season in Rio de Janeiro, because I didn't have a response from Corinthians. So, for me it's all very easy, man. If you don't want it, here's someone else who wants it", he said.

Generated proximity

Paulo Sérgio also revealed that, due to the closeness acquired with Rubro-Negro at that time, Bayer Leverkusen looked favorably on the possible hiring of Filipe Luís to lead the team, but explained that the deal ended up not happening.

"Even today, due to the approach that was made with Flamengo, Filipe's name was considered to be the coach this coming season. Unfortunately, it didn't work out, because he didn't have a license. But then, whenever there is an approach, things end up flowing and then we end up working together", he explained.

Partnership with Corinthians?

In the interview, Paulo Sérgio also explained that he had the idea of a future project that could bring Corinthians and Bayer Leverkusen together, but that didn't happen either.

"I brought them (Germans) here to get to know the entire structure of Corinthians. I brought them, in fact, to present this structure, because people often think that we, excuse the expression, live in a jungle. Just women, carnival, samba and that's it. No, quite the opposite. We have the structure. We have serious work. We have competent men and women in our country. And I bring the Germans to get to know this structure", he began.

"They came here to the stadium. I also took them to the museum, in Parque São Jorge. I told a little of my story there. The Germans like that. And it's logical that in the future my project was to try to form a partnership within some department with Corinthians, Leverkusen-Corinthians", he explained.

"But then things start to take a different turn... How can I say? It's not in line with what I thought and I couldn't put my name involved in everything that was happening. They ask me. So, Paulo, how is it there? And then they observe. It was a mess, debt and everything. And then I back down. I hold back, I don't say anything else. Because unfortunately we've had unstable moments within Corinthians. And that's very bad. Very bad for the club and also for those who will bring something to the club", he added.
