French prosecutors called this Wednesday (10) for the indictment and preventive detention of French singer and actor Patrick Bruel, 67, who is being investigated on charges of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment.
According to the Nanterre Public Prosecutor's Office, in the Paris region, the artist was detained on Monday (8) and remained under interrogation for two days.
In a statement, the prosecutor's office reported having requested the opening of a judicial investigation and the indictment of Bruel for alleged crimes committed against nine victims between 2010 and 2019.
The Public Prosecutor's Office also incorporated into the process complaints presented by 13 other women, related to cases of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment that occurred between 1992 and 2008. Part of these accusations, however, may be time-barred.
Patrick Bruel denies all allegations accusations.
Faced with the repercussions of the case and the emergence of new allegations, the singer canceled a large part of the tour he would undertake in France and other countries starting in June.
With more than four decades of career, Bruel is one of the most popular artists in France, with millions of records sold and also acting in cinema and television.
