Four days before he died, pastor Romildo Batista de Lima celebrated his 69th birthday alongside his wife, Carlha Nacarid, during their trip to Venezuela. The couple was visiting her family in Caracas when they were surprised by the earthquakes that hit the country. What would have been a moment of celebration and reunion ended in tragedy.
On Wednesday (24), during the disaster, the couple tried to take shelter, but a wall collapsed on them both. Romildo was removed from the rubble alive and taken to a hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he did not survive his injuries and died in the early hours of Thursday (25).

Carlha survived the collapse. She remains hospitalized with a fractured pelvis and, according to family members, is deeply shaken by her husband's death.
Natural from Chapada de Minas (MG), Romildo had built a life in Uberlândia, where he had lived for more than ten years. A pastor, he was remembered by his family as a man of faith, affectionate and passionate about traveling. The trip that marked his 69th birthday also ended up being his last.

The information was confirmed to Romildo's family by his wife and passed on to g1 by his niece Jhulya Ribeiro de Lima. neglect", lamented Jhulya.

The report contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) to confirm whether Romildo is among the dead Brazilians officially identified after the earthquake.
In a statement, Itamaraty informed that, due to the right to privacy and in compliance with the provisions of the Access to Information Law and decree 7,724/2012, it does not disclose or confirm personal information of citizens who request consular services nor does it provide details about the assistance provided to Brazilians.
On Wednesday, the federal government confirmed the death of two Brazilians, a man and a woman, whose identities were not revealed. "The MRE informs, with great regret, the death of a Brazilian citizen as a result of the earthquakes that hit Venezuela. The MRE informs that it is providing consular assistance to the families of the victims," it said in a statement.
The death toll from earthquakes in Venezuela rose to 1,430 people on Saturday (27), according to an updated report from the Venezuelan government. The new report also states that there are 3,000 injured and 3,100 people left homeless due to the disaster.

Family faces difficulties bringing body to Brazil
Romildo's family in Brazil learned about what had happened unexpectedly. His sister saw a television report about the earthquake in Venezuela and tried to contact the couple.
Initially, she was unable to reach them because her cell phone had been lost during the disaster. Hours later, Carlha managed to reestablish contact and told what had happened.
Since then, the family has faced difficulties in bringing Romildo's body back to Brazil. According to relatives, the Consulate was contacted to guide the transfer process, but, so far, there has been no definition of the next steps.
Until Friday, the family had also not received the death certificate. "We still have no response. It's very desperate because we want to bring my uncle, mainly to hold a dignified wake for him. They keep passing contact to each other", reported the niece.
