Parties sign agreement with TSE for responsible use of AI in elections
The TSE (Superior Electoral Court) signed an agreement this Wednesday (17) with political parties to reinforce the commitment to the integrity of the 2026 elections. The signing of the Term of Commitment took place during a meeting held in the morning at the Court's headquarters, in Brasília.
Among the main points of the document is the responsible use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools and equivalent technologies during the electoral process.
The agreement also provides for actions to encourage voter participation, promote respect for ideological differences and strengthen the defense of the Democratic Rule of Law.
By the signed agreement, the parties undertake to encourage citizen participation in elections, respect political and ideological plurality, fulfill quotas for financing and electoral propaganda aimed at women, black and indigenous people, in addition to working to prevent and combat political violence against women.
The parties also made a commitment to defend democratic institutions, political parties and their representatives, contributing to the preservation of an environment of respect during the electoral dispute.
Another aspect highlighted in the document is combating misinformation. Without expressly mentioning the term "fake news", Nunes Marques points to the need to expand the circulation of reliable information and reduce the impact of misleading content.
Another point discussed with the parties concerns the transparency of the electronic voting system. The acronyms must commit to participating in the inspection and audit stages of electoral systems, with the verification and validation of technologies.
President of the TSE, minister Kassio Nunes Marques also highlighted that the digital environment represents one of the main challenges of this year's electoral dispute and highlighted the need for cooperation between candidates, parties and the Electoral Court to ensure the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence.
"We all know that the challenges of this election will not be small. Faced with a complex digital ecosystem, the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence tools undoubtedly depends on the participation of all contenders in the election and the Electoral Court", he stated.
The president of the TSE also reaffirmed the Court's commitment to impartiality in the analysis of electoral conflicts and to the uniform application of the Court's jurisprudence.
"I renew, on behalf of the TSE, the commitment to impartiality in the solution of disputes brought to court, as well as the faithful observance of the precedents set by the collegiate. I am convinced that Your Lordships, in the same way, will make every effort to maintain the level of public debate, in order to concentrate the campaign effort on presenting solutions to the many problems that persist in our beloved country", stated the minister.
