Paris Jackson opens up about her behavior during her battle with addiction

Michael Jackson's (1958-2009) daughter, Paris Jackson, 28, spoke openly about her struggle with addiction and revealed that alcohol compromised her "moral compass."

Appearing on Jack Osbourne's "Trying Not to Die" podcast, she declared that she engaged in "really horrible" behavior while battling drug and alcohol addiction.

"It's really ugly behavior from a moral standpoint, because I was raised to be kind - not just nice, I don't care about that - but kind," she explained.

She also emphasized the importance of kindness: "Be kind, look people in the eye and ask the waiter's name to write it down on the bill later, little things, like, how do you treat people?".

After 6 years sober, she recalled the period as "years and years of self-loathing." "I have a moral compass. What happens when I drink is that it disappears. It goes down the drain and I become a very vindictive person."

Paris Jackson first sought addiction treatment at age 17. She also revealed that she struggled with self-harm and faced a complicated relationship with food.

Michael Jackson's daughter has previously spoken out a few times about the difficulties of staying sober: "Being sober doesn't always mean life is perfect. After a few years, everything got very, very difficult."

"For a time that felt like an eternity. And I no longer had the same survival skills I used to have to deal with things. I had to learn to live life as it is," she said in January on social media.
