The Palestinian flag is flying on the marquee at the Azteca Stadium, in Mexico, at the opening of the 2026 World Cup. The pennant was spotted during the show it gave kickoff to the most important football tournament in the world.

The flag is flying behind one of the goals, between the flags of Pakistan and Panama, according to a visual analysis by g1 made from photos made available by international news agencies. See the image below.

This is because FIFA has 211 members, and not all of them are countries recognized by the international community. The UN, for example, has 193 member countries. The Palestinian joined FIFA in 1998. Another example of a FIFA member that is not recognized as a country is Hong Kong, which is a Special Administrative Region of China.
