Pakistani Interior Minister arrives in Iran for further negotiations

Pakistan's Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, arrived in Tehran, Iran, on Saturday (6), for a new round of negotiations on behalf of the United States.

According to the semi-official Tasnim News agency, Naqvi is expected to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during the visit.

The semi-official Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) reported separately that Naqvi is carrying a letter from Pakistani army chief Asim Munir to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who has continued to maintain a low public profile since taking office in March.

This new round of negotiations comes as Pakistan tries to position itself as a regional mediator following the conflict between the US and Iran.

Stalled negotiations and new exchange of attacks
A new round of attacks by Iran and the US has increased tension over a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. Pakistani mediators are in Iran this weekend for new talks, seeking a breakthrough in stalled peace talks.

The US struck coastal radar surveillance facilities in Iran after intercepting drones it said were launched toward the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran responded with a wave of attacks against its Gulf neighbors Kuwait and Bahrain, claiming the targets were a US air base and military installations.
