Pakistani attacks leave 13 dead in Afghanistan, says Taliban

At least 13 people died, including 11 children, after airstrikes by the Pakistani army in three Afghan provinces, Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Wednesday (10), in a resumption of the conflict that has killed hundreds of people this year.

At least 14 other people, all children and women, were injured in Islamabad strikes that violated Afghan airspace and bombed civilian homes in Kunar, Khost and Paktika provinces, Mujahid added.

There was no immediate comment from the Pakistani military or government, but security officials told Reuters that Islamabad carried out airstrikes against what they called "hideouts and other facilities of Pakistani militants who use them against Pakistan."

Islamabad has accused Kabul of harboring militants who, according to the government, are planning attacks in Pakistan. The Taliban denied the accusations and stated that extremism in Pakistan is an internal problem.

The resumption of violence threatens to upset a long truce in fighting between Pakistan and Afghanistan, allies-turned-enemies who fought their worst battle in years in February.

The two countries agreed to a fragile ceasefire in March, with China trying to mediate a solution to the conflict.
