Belgium coach Rudi Garcia stated that midfielder Amadou Onana suffered a "serious injury" in the 4-1 victory over the United States, on Monday (6), and will hardly be able to face Spain in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, on Friday (10).

Onana was injured in the 19th minute of the match, when competing for a ball with striker Christian Pulisic. The midfielder put his hand on his right knee, showing severe pain. Despite trying to stay on the field, he was replaced two minutes later by Hans Vanaken, who scored the Belgian team's third goal.

After the match, Garcia regretted the situation and classified the injury as the only negative aspect of the classification.

"It was the only dark cloud of our night", said the coach.

Before leaving the field, Onana had been one of Belgium's highlights. The midfielder played an important role in the strong pressure exerted by the team on the ball leaving the United States, interrupting the actions of the opposing midfield and helping to execute the Red Devils' strategy.

During the classification celebration, the player was seen on the pitch using crutches and an orthosis on his right knee.

"It's not good news for him individually or for us as a team. I have a feeling he's out," said Garcia.
