President of Corinthians was among the representatives of clubs and federations on a visit to MLS, which aimed to learn about management structures, commercial organization and governance of North American football

The president of Corinthians, Osmar Stabile, participated last Friday (12) in a meeting promoted by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in New York, in the United States, as part of the entity's international immersion program to discuss the construction of a new league model for Brazilian football.

The agenda brought together representatives of clubs from Series A and B of the Brazilian Championship, presidents of state federations and CBF directors on a visit to Major League Soccer (MLS), the main football league in the United States. The objective was to understand how the North American competition works, mainly in areas related to sports management, commercial organization and property development.

The initiative continues the work started in January 2026, when a CBF delegation carried out technical visits to the Premier League, in England, the Bundesliga, in Germany, and La Liga, in Spain, to analyze different formats of professional football administration.

During their visit to the MLS headquarters, Brazilian directors attended presentations by league executives on strategies adopted to grow the competition in recent years. Among the topics covered were commercial models, digital platforms, competitions and international expansion.

The meetings were attended by MLS representatives such as Nelson Rodriguez, executive vice president of Sports Product and Competitions; Chris Schlosser, vice president of Digital Platforms for MLS and Apple Partnership; Pablo Zarate, Vice President of International Properties for MLS and Soccer United Marketing (SUM); and Lorenzo de La Garza, International Properties Manager.

The president of the CBF, Samir Xaud, highlighted that the exchange of experiences is part of the process of building an environment for dialogue between clubs, federations and the entity.

"We are building an environment of permanent dialogue between clubs, federations and CBF. Knowing successful experiences, understanding different business models and observing solutions adopted by other leagues is fundamental to developing a solid project adapted to the reality of Brazilian football", he stated.

The vice-president of the CBF, Gustavo Dias Henrique, highlighted that the intention of the initiative is not to reproduce foreign models, but to evaluate practices that can contribute to the national scenario.

"We are not looking to simply copy models, but to expand access to these strategies that worked abroad to bring what makes sense to our experience in Brazil and can strengthen the national football ecosystem", he declared.

The executive director of the CBF, Helder Melillo, explained that the visit to the MLS expanded discussions about the possible creation of a Brazilian league, mainly due to the commercial experience developed by the North American competition.

"In January we were with the Bundesliga, Premier League and La Liga. Now we took advantage of the World Cup in the United States to learn more about MLS, a league that has shown significant growth in recent years, especially in the commercial area. It was an important opportunity to understand different forms of organization, governance and exploitation of commercial properties and deepen the discussions we promoted in meetings with these clubs and federations to create the league in Brazil", he commented.

Among the participants in the meeting, the president of Internacional, Alessandro Barcellos, positively evaluated the contact with the MLS structure and highlighted points observed during the visit.

"It was very important to get to know the workings of a relatively new league up close, in a market where football is still competing with other sports. The MLS presents a very aggressive commercial organization and mechanisms that seek competitive balance. We take from here ideas and processes that will certainly contribute to the journey we are building together with the CBF in formatting a unique league for Brazilian football", he said.

The president of the Paraná Football Federation, Hélio Cury, also highlighted the importance of rapprochement between clubs, federations and CBF during the process.

"The immersion promoted by CBF was extremely positive and productive. We had contact with new ideas, different ways of organizing and marketing the football industry. Above all, it was evident that the union between clubs, federations and CBF represents a path capable of generating benefits for all of Brazilian football", he stated.

The head of the CBF International Office, Bruno Costa, highlighted that the rapprochement with international organizations contributes to the development of new projects in Brazilian football.

"It was a very important opportunity to bring Brazilian directors closer to one of the fastest growing leagues in world football. American sport is recognized globally for its excellence in management and this connection strengthens institutional relationships, reduces distances and creates opportunities for projects that are already being developed to benefit Brazilian football", he declared.

Osmar Stabile's participation in the meeting took place within the agenda of rapprochement between Brazilian clubs and the CBF, which seeks to bring together different representatives of national football to discuss organization and management alternatives for a future Brazilian league.
