Oscar will give honorary award to Glenn Close, Ridley Scott and more

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will give honorary Oscars to artists who have never been awarded the statuette. They include Glenn Close, Ridley Scott and Floyd Norman, while producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler will receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.

According to Variety magazine, the awards will be presented at the 17th edition of the Academy's Governors Awards, scheduled for November 17, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.

Close currently holds the record for the most Oscar-nominated actress without any wins, with eight nominations, and shares the title with the late actor Pete O'Toole. Director Ridley Scott also does not hold any statuettes, despite having three nominations and his film, "Gladiator", having won five categories at the 2000 Oscars.

In a statement to the magazine, Academy president Lynette Howell Taylor declared that the decision was to award five artists whose "innovative work forever shaped the art of filmmaking." "Throughout his extraordinary body of work, Glenn Close's incomparable emotional range has brought to life some of cinema's most complex characters," he said of the actress.

Floyd Norman is the first black animator at Disney Studios, starting at the company in 1956. His first feature was "Beauty and the Beast", and he worked on "The Wait Was a Law", "The Jungle Book", "Toy Story 2" and many others.
