OpenAI said on Monday it is creating a new company with more than $4 billion in initial investment to help companies create and deploy artificial intelligence systems.
To quickly scale up the new unit, OpenAI will acquire an AI consulting firm, Tomoro.
After its first models resonated strongly with consumers, OpenAI has been working aggressively to sign corporate contracts and establish a large presence in the business world.
The venture, which will be majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI, also comes as rival Anthropic finds great success in its enterprise AI initiative, with its Claude family of models being rapidly adopted.

The new company, called OpenAI Deployment Company, will help the maker of ChatGPT to onboard engineers specializing in frontier AI deployment where they will work closely with multiple teams to identify how AI can make the biggest impact, OpenAI said.
The acquisition of Tomoro will bring about 150 experienced AI engineers and "deployment experts" to the new unit from day one.
Tomoro was formed in 2023 in alliance with OpenAI and has clients such as Mattel, Red Bull, Tesco and Virgin Atlantic, according to its website.
