One of the greatest conductors in the world, Venezuelan Gustavo Dudamel offers solidarity after earthquake: 'Deep sadness'

Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, considered one of the most important in the world, showed solidarity with Venezuela after the earthquake this Wednesday (24).

In a statement published on his official Instagram account, Dudamel lamented the latest events in the country and announced that he is working for international support.
"I feel deep sadness for this terrible tragedy that occurred in our country. My thoughts are with all of you, sisters and Venezuelan brothers", he began.
"There are occasions when words are not enough. Therefore, I am working on an immediate plan of international support and solidarity, of which I will soon be able to give more details, with the idea of helping those most affected in this difficult time."
"Our country has always risen in the face of adversity with strength, unity and hope. I am always with you, my beloved Venezuela", concluded the maestro.
Currently, Dudamel is artistic director of the Orchestra. Symón Bolívar Symphony, from Venezuela, and the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonic, having even opened a series of shows by the band Coldplay at Wembley Stadium in 2025.

The two earthquakes that shook Venezuela occurred less than a minute apart and with a difference of 5 kilometers between them. The epicenter of the strongest tremor was recorded in the Venezuelan city of El Guayabo, 168 km from the capital Caracas.
Replicates occurred in coastal cities close to the Venezuelan capital, such as La Guaira, which was heavily destroyed. Caracas international airport was also closed.
In addition to the intensity of the tremors - of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 - the shallow depth of the two tremors also explains the trail of destruction left. This is because, the closer to the ground, the more felt the earthquake.
The tremors also occurred in densely populated areas. A calculation made by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimated, based on these variables, that the number of deaths could exceed 10 thousand people.
