One left: Flaco López is the only player from the Brasileirão who remains in the World Cup

With Colombia's elimination to Switzerland in the round of 16 of the World Cup this Tuesday, only one player who plays in the Brasileirão remains in contention for the World Cup title: Flaco López, from Palmeiras. The striker from Argentina, the current champion, who defeated Egypt, will face the Swiss in the quarterfinals.

The Colombians, who fell to penalties after a goalless draw in the 90 minutes and extra time, had four athletes: Arias, from Palmeiras, Andrés Gómez, from Vasco, Carrascal, from Flamengo, and Juan Portilla, from Athletico-PR.

Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay, each with seven, were the countries with the most players from the Brazilian football elite at the World Cup. Ecuador had five representatives and Argentina and the Netherlands had one each.

In total, 32 athletes from Series A competed in this edition of the biggest football tournament on the planet, a record number that surpassed the 27 selected players who played in Brazilian lands in 1974.

In terms of clubs, Flamengo has the most call-ups, with 9, followed by Palmeiras, with 7. Next comes Atlético-MG, with 4, Grêmio and Internacional, with 2 each, and Corinthians, Santos, São Paulo, Red Bull Bragantino, Botafogo, Fluminense, Vasco and Athletico-PR, each with 1.
