Olivia Wilde talks about romance with Harry Styles: "It bothered me a lot"
Model and actress Olivia Wilde, 42, opened up about the relationship she had with Harry Styles, 32, with whom she stayed for around two years. In an interview with the podcast "Call Her Daddy", she expressed some regret for having remained silent amid comments about her relationship.
Their age difference, which is ten years, was harshly criticized by the public at the time of the release of "Don't Worry, Honey", in 2022. The film was directed by her and starred Harry Styles and Florence Pugh.
"I've never felt so distant from the person people were talking about. It was also very strange to see complete fiction being treated as fact," Wilde said of this period in his life."
She also added that external comments did not affect her own happiness within the relationship. "I think we lived in a kind of bubble, and the trial never got into it, which was a miracle and proof that we were able to make it happen," Wilde added.
"I think people were angry. It's almost as if happiness has irritated them. I would go to shows and dance, and people would say things like, 'You bitch! How dare you dance and smile?' That really bothered people."
The release of "Don't Worry, Honey" was marred by controversy from the start, after Wilde received a court order for custody of her son while presenting the film's first scenes at CinemaCon.
In addition, rumors began to circulate that Wilde and Pugh had fallen out on set due to creative differences.
"That was very difficult... I felt like I was working on behalf of hundreds of people [who worked on this film]. I felt frustrated that I couldn't defend myself, but it wasn't about me... I think my own attempt to be strong and somehow rise above that ended up feeling inauthentic."
