New York Times places a Brazilian destination among the 52 places to visit in 2026
The New York Times published this Tuesday (6) its ranking of 52 places to visit in 2026. A Brazilian destination is on the list: the Inhotim Institute, in Brumadinho (MG), which was in 24th position (see the full list).
"One of the few criticisms made of Inhotim is that a single day is not enough to see everything", says the New York Times, highlighting the "500 works distributed in 24 galleries of unique architecture, in the midst of a huge botanical garden".

"In 2026, Inhotim celebrates 20 years of opening to the public (the space began as a private collection) with a special program of exhibitions that explore Brazil's Afro-Amazonian identity", adds the newspaper.
"Works by Dalton Paula, Davi de Jesus do Nascimento, Paulo Nazareth and 22 South American indigenous artists will be added to the permanent collection, which includes works by artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Hélio Oiticica."

When mentioning Inhotim, the New York Times cites Belo Horizonte, about 55 km from the museum, as "the capital of bars" in Brazil and lists the capital of Minas Gerais, the Serra do Cipó National Park and "churches of baroque exuberance" as reasons to extend the trip after visiting in Brumadinho.
Brasília (in 2024), Manaus and the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (both in 2023) were some of the Brazilian places that recently appeared in the New York Times' annual ranking. Last year, no destination in the country made the list.

In addition to the Minas Gerais museum, the newspaper also included cities, beaches, parks, natural scenes and other attractions as destinations for travelers in 2026.
In first place on the list, the New York Times named 'Revolutionary America' as its destination, bringing together several events that will take place in the United States in 2026 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the country's independence. Independence [July 4th]", says the newspaper.
The NYT also cites the capital Washington and the states of Virginia, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts as prominent locations for the celebrations.

In second place in the ranking appears Warsaw, Poland, with emphasis on the Museum of Modern Art and Plac Defilad, the city's central square.
"Created in the 1950s for parades during the communist period, the square is being transformed into a green center aimed at pedestrians, connecting the museum to other cultural spaces", says the newspaper.
To close the top 3, the NYT chose another capital: Bangkok, in Thailand, which "has been working intensely to combat its status as one of the least green cities in Asia", according to the publication.
