The Australian Space Agency (ASA) believes that the objects are remnants of space debris. A spokeswoman for the agency told ABC that everything indicates that they are pressure tanks belonging to a rocket launcher.
Popularly, they are also known as "Space Balls", with no relation to the comedy film of the same name by Mel Brooks, released in 1987.
In the aerospace sector, the term refers to pressure tanks made from titanium alloys that are part of the fuel system of rockets. rockets.
According to experts, due to the heat-resistant material, these objects usually survive re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
However, caution must be exercised. The British newspaper The Guardian cited space expert Alice Gorman, from Flinders University, who warned of the possible presence of hydrazine residues inside the spheres, a highly toxic and flammable rocket fuel.
But authorities have not confirmed this possibility. According to the ASA, the spheres have already been collected and classified as safe.
Still, the agency's spokeswoman reinforced that suspicious space debris should never be touched, moved or collected. She recommended that people stay away from the place and notify the emergency services, always assuming that the objects are dangerous.
