Nany People presents a play in SP about life's losses: "Humor is salvation"
Losing loved ones in a row made Nany People rethink their lives - and it was precisely from this experience that "Uma Segunda Chance" was born, a show running in São Paulo. In an interview with CNN Brasil, the actress and comedian said that she transformed mourning into a comedy that invites the public to reflect on time, new beginnings and the importance of enjoying life. The play has screenings in the capital of São Paulo on the 10th and 11th of July, at the B32 theater.
The inspiration came after a series of losses that marked his trajectory in recent years. "In less than four years, I lost eight people who were very close to me", he recalled.
After turning 60, Nany said she realized that, along with maturity, came reflections on finitude. According to her, many of the deaths happened unexpectedly, which aroused an uneasiness that ended up being carried to the stage. "Time doesn't just take away our collagen. Time takes away our ability to dream", he said.
It was then that she approached playwright Bruno Motta with the request for the author to write a story about the impact that a sudden death has on those who leave - and also on those who stay.
"I wanted a text that talked about this abrupt thing in life, of us waking up and not being where we imagined. I kept thinking about the minds of my friends who died very suddenly. What must it be like in the mind of a person who still had a lot of things to do, a lot of things to accomplish?"
From this idea, Ivone, protagonist of "A Second Chance", was born. In the plot, the character receives the opportunity to prove why he deserves to continue living. "The question that remains is: what are you doing with the most precious thing in your life, which is the time of your existence?", highlighted the artist.
Although the premise talks about death, Nany makes a point of highlighting that the show is, above all, a comedy. According to the actress, the audience laughs during practically the entire performance, but leaves the theater with a reflection.
"We use humor to win over the audience. All my solos are motivational. Theater has an obligation to leave a message. It's not just laughter for the sake of laughter. Laughter makes you relax. Then the message comes with more intensity."
When remembering the friends she lost, Nany says that the feeling is that of seeing her own story becoming incomplete.
"You start to feel like an orphan. Your life identity becomes incomplete. People who were part of your trajectory are simply no longer there."
She also uses the play to provoke reflection on the way people see their own importance.
"We think it is essential. Essential is oxygen. Light is essential. We are replaced."
Even though it deals with profound themes, the artist states that the final message is one of hope. For her, laughing remains one of the most powerful ways to face life's pain.
"Humor is salvation. Humor is medicine. When you learn to laugh at yourself, everything gets better."
