Caiado diz que Flávio "conspirou" contra economia do Brasil por tarifaço

During a hearing this Tuesday (7), pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) classified as "unacceptable" the actions of senator and also pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) in relation to the tariffs imposed by the USA on Brazil.

In May, Flávio met with US President Donald Trump for a meeting at the White House. A few days later, the North American government announced a new 25% tariff on Brazilian products. Asked if he considered the episode a "betrayal of the country", Caiado replied:

"This [legislation on treason against the country] exists in all democratic countries, this is not a new rule, no! That's it, you are conspiring against the country's economy. There is anti-dumping legislation and it is not applied," he said.

The crime of treason against the country was mentioned by Zeca Martins, mediator of the conversation, who stated that he discovered the lack of specific legislation during a conversation with jurist Miguel Reale Jr. Today, only the Military Penal Code covers the act, in article 141, applicable only in times of war, while the Civil Penal Code deals with attacks on national sovereignty in articles 344 and 359-I.

According to the law, "entering into an understanding with a foreign country, or organization existing there, to generate conflict or divergence of an international nature between Brazil and any other country, or to disturb their diplomatic relations" can be characterized as a crime.

Before talking about the lack of legislation, Caiado judged Itamaraty's performance in relation to the tariff imposed by the Trump administration. According to him, the body failed to fulfill its functions.

Shortly before the start of the hearing, the pre-candidate responded to some conversations with the press where he stated that asking for the postponement of tariffs until after the elections creates a "false positive" for the population.

"I don't know Flávio Bolsonaro's line of reasoning. I'm 100% against it and our concern is Brazil as a whole, not an electoral period. We can't create a false positive for the population, that is: we won't be taxed until the election? Then will we accept it? No!", said Caiado.

Still this Tuesday (7), Flávio participated in a hearing in the United States, in which he defended that the tariffs against Brazil be canceled. The hearing is part of the investigation initiated under Section 301 of American trade law.

The procedure analyzes whether policies adopted by Brazil represent harm to the commercial interests of the United States.
