The Labor Party, which governs the United Kingdom, said on Tuesday (7) that it will not present a candidate in the parliamentary election for the Clacton district, a vote provoked by the decision of the leader of the ultra-right Reform UK party, Nigel Farage, to resign from his position to try again to win a seat in Parliament.

"Farage is embroiled in a misconduct scandal and is desperately trying to change the subject. It's pathetic, and the Labor Party will not stand for it," said a party spokesperson.

Resignation after scandals
Nigel Farage announced on Tuesday that he would resign from his seat in Parliament after being accused of receiving millions of pounds sterling from supporters without declaring the funds.

As the British political system is that of district voting, every time a politician resigns or is removed from his position in Parliament, local authorities call elections immediately so that the district continues to be represented.

By controlling the Reform UK party, Farage has the power to order himself to stand for the post he resigned from. According to him, all this maneuvering will be done so that "the people decide" their political future.

"This will be a by-election of the people against the establishment," he said. "I will fight to win. I will fight to continue the political revolution that Reform started."

In recent times, the British press has revealed several accusations that he received a lot of money from people who support him without having declared this to the authorities and Parliament, which has already opened an ethics investigation into his behavior.

The latest episode was revealed by the Sunday Times newspaper over the weekend.

According to the vehicle, Farage would have received 5 million pounds (around R$35 million) from George Cottrell, an ally who was arrested in 2017 for fraud in the United States.

The money would have been used to pay for security for Farage and the team responsible for his social media, before the elections.

The Reform UK leader said he "followed the rules" and is a victim of an "establishment smear campaign".
