6×1: Otto awaits Alcolumbre, but says he will not guide alternative PEC

The president of the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Senate, Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), stated this Tuesday (9) that the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) of the alternative regime to the end of the 6×1 labor scale, presented by opposition senators, will not be discussed in the collegiate body. The text creates a flexible regime based on hours worked.

According to CNN Brasil, it doesn't make sense to discuss the matter at this time, while there are other proposals on the same topic still being negotiated and the opposition's text was presented at the "last minute", on May 28.

Opposition senators and part of the business community have been pressuring the Senate to move forward with this proposal. However, there are still no prospects for dates on any of the matters related to changes in the scale and working hours in the country.

Otto intended to meet with Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP) this Tuesday, but the meeting was canceled by the president of the Senate. Alcolumbre, in turn, met with the Minister of the Institutional Relations Secretariat, José Guimarães, and other leaders at the Official Senate Residence. There has been no official announcement.

The PEC articulated by Planalto with the president of the Chamber Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) was approved in two rounds with broad results and massive support, including from the opposition in the House. It proposes a 5×2 scale, with working hours of up to 40 hours per week and up to 14 months to be implemented, counting from the date of its promulgation.

Now, the proposal will be analyzed by the Senate, but it has not yet reached the CCJ - an order is still missing and will also end up passing through Alcolumbre.

Despite the preference now for the text approved in the Chamber to the detriment of the one proposed by the opposition, Otto Alencar says he prefers another PEC that also deals with the end of the 6×1 scale, has already been approved by the CCJ and has been ready for deliberation in the Senate plenary since the end of last year. If possible, this PEC would be the first on the list to be played.

Otto has been demanding Alcolumbre to guide this proposal. However, there is no prospect of progress so far.

This proposal in question progressively reduces the working day from 44 hours per week to 36 hours, with two days of rest.
