Minister of Justice says there is no doubt about Sicário's suicide

Minister of Justice Wellington Cesar Lima admitted this Tuesday (09) that Luiz Philip Mourão, Daniel Vorcaro's accomplice known as Sicário, in fact made an attempt on his own life in the cell where he was held.

"There was no doubt about the nature of the event (suicide) based on forensic examinations. I didn't watch the video, but officials said it was unequivocal. The PF (Federal Police) investigated it rigorously," he said.

The minister also explained that the details about Mourão's death have "many confidential aspects", but that they must be removed from secrecy at some point.

Luiz Philip Machado de Moraes Mourão was described as the operational arm of the organization headed by the former owner of Banco Master and was accused of criminal organization and money laundering. Considered a loan shark by the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais, Mourão was responsible for the group that collected information from people considered "disaffected" by the former banker.

The statement was made during the Public Security and Combating Organized Crime Commission, promoted by the Chamber so that the Ministry could provide clarifications on various topics. One of the topics also covered was the withdrawal of credentials of a Brazilian police officer linked to the arrest of Alexandre Ramagem, in Florida, in April this year.

Who was Sicário?
According to the PF, Sicário was responsible for "coordinating activities aimed at obtaining information, monitoring people and collecting data considered relevant to the group's interests". The corporation pointed out that he obtained data from restricted systems of public bodies, including databases used by public finance and police investigation institutions.

The person under investigation would also have acted to remove content and profiles on platforms, with the aim of obtaining user data or removing possible criticism of the group from circulation.

On March 4 of this year, Mourão was arrested by the Federal Police and made an attempt on his own life while in custody. He was immediately taken to Hospital João XXIII, in Belo Horizonte, and died two days later, on March 6.
