The eternal lead singer of the Pretenders, Chrissie Hynde, once again provoked an intense discussion among musicians and fans by harshly criticizing the excessive use of cell phones during live performances. The British singer, known for her outspoken personality and blunt opinions, questioned the increasingly common habit of watching shows through smartphone screens instead of enjoying the moment directly.

The controversy began after a post made by Hynde on social media, where she reported recent experiences that left her deeply uncomfortable. According to the artist, the behavior of people who spend a large part of the shows recording videos and taking photos harms not only those around them, but also the connection between the artist and the public.

The singer said that the reflection came after a conversation with legendary country artist Emmylou Harris. During the meeting, the two discussed the impact of cell phones on the modern concert experience. Hynde revealed that she recently attended performances where spectators spent virtually all of their time filming, blocking other people's views and diverting attention from what really matters: the live music.

In one of the most commented excerpts from her publication, the vocalist stated that she does not understand why so many people feel the need to record everything that happens around them. She questioned why someone would prefer to watch a show through a screen instead of living that moment fully and spontaneously.

The artist also reported similar experiences in museums and art exhibitions. According to Hynde, during a visit to an exhibition dedicated to the painter Vincent van Gogh, she came across numerous visitors more concerned with photographing the works than observing them. For her, this behavior reflects a society increasingly obsessed with recording moments instead of actually living them.

Another point highlighted by the singer was the lack of respect for the rules established by some artists. She cited cases in which musicians explicitly request that cell phones not be used during performances, but many spectators ignore the requests and continue recording. In Hynde's view, there is a growing feeling that some people believe they have the right to do whatever they want during shows, regardless of the performers' wishes.

The Pretenders leader's position is supported by other important names in music. Artists such as Bob Dylan, Jack White and Sabrina Carpenter have already spoken out in favor of policies that restrict or even ban the use of cell phones during performances. Bob Dylan, for example, adopts strict rules at many concerts to preserve the live experience.

The debate reignited by Chrissie Hynde reveals an issue increasingly present in the entertainment industry: the extent to which technology is transforming the way people consume art and music. While many defend the right to record special moments, others believe that the essence of shows lies precisely in the unique and unrepeatable experience of the present moment.

With a decades-long career and one of the most distinctive voices in rock, Hynde makes it clear that she continues to defend the importance of human connection and mindfulness during musical performances. His review may divide opinions, but it certainly brought back to the center of discussions a topic that affects artists and fans around the world.
