Northeast enters danger alert for intense rain this Sunday (24)
Areas of the Northeast are on alert for intense rain this Sunday (24), according to a warning issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET). The agency placed part of Bahia in a severity level of danger, indicating conditions for storms with high volumes of precipitation and strong winds throughout the day.
The most serious alert is valid between 00:00 and 23:59 this Sunday and covers the Metropolitan Region of Salvador and the south of Bahia. According to INMET, rainfall of between 30 and 60 millimeters per hour or between 50 and 100 millimeters per day are expected, in addition to wind gusts between 60 and 100 km/h.
According to the institute, the conditions increase the risk of interruptions in the supply of electricity, falling tree branches, flooding and the occurrence of electrical discharges. The scenario focuses mainly on urban areas and regions historically more vulnerable to water accumulation.
In addition to the danger warning, INMET also issued a potential danger warning for other areas of Bahia. The statement includes Central-South Bahia, Northeast Bahia, South Bahia, Metropolitan Region of Salvador and Central-North Bahia.
In these locations, the forecast indicates rain between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour or up to 50 millimeters throughout the day, accompanied by winds between 40 and 60 km/h. Despite the lower severity, the institute warns of the possibility of occasional disruptions, such as falling branches, localized flooding and instability in the electrical network.
The forecast for Sunday indicates continued rainy conditions in eastern Bahia, with greater intensity in stretches of the coast. The pattern of instability keeps the state among the areas with the greatest potential for significant accumulations in the Northeast this weekend.
As a preventive measure, INMET advises the population to avoid taking shelter under trees during gusts of wind, not to park vehicles near signs and transmission towers and, if possible, to turn off electrical appliances and the general power supply. In case of emergency, the recommendation is to call Civil Defense by calling 199 or the Fire Department by calling 193.
Brazil under warning
In addition to the danger alert on the coast of Bahia, other regions of the country also remain under meteorological attention this Sunday (24). INMET maps indicate areas on alert for intense rain in the North, with emphasis on stretches of Amazonas, Roraima and Amapá, where high accumulations and storms are forecast.
In the Center-South, areas between Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná also appear under warnings for instability and strong winds. In the rest of the Northeast coast, warnings of lesser severity predominate, but still with the possibility of persistent rain and occasional disturbances. The scenario reinforces a weekend marked by instability in different parts of the country.
