North Korean media says Japan's external aggression is reality

A commentary published by the North Korean state agency KCNA on Tuesday (7) criticized Japan's military expansion, stating that its external aggression "is not a hypothesis, but a reality", and cited Japanese plans to develop unmanned submarines capable of carrying out attacks against ships.

The comment states that the vessels will be able to carry torpedoes and naval mines and be positioned close to the coast of neighboring countries, allowing the launch of preventive attacks against enemy ships in the event of conflict.

The text accuses Tokyo of abandoning its long-held doctrine of an exclusively defense-oriented policy and transforming its military forces into a "totally offensive and aggressive force."

KCNA also pointed to Japan's efforts to mass-produce domestically developed long-range missiles, develop a new ballistic missile with a range of up to 3,000 kilometers, deploy improved versions of anti-ship missiles and hypersonic glide weapons, and acquire foreign-made missiles, including the Tomahawk, from the United States.

Japan's Foreign Ministry did not respond to calls seeking comment.

The comment was published at a time when North Korea has increasingly highlighted its own naval modernization program.

On Sunday, KCNA reported that leader Kim Jong Un attended the launch of a strategic cruise missile and testing of weapons systems aboard the new 5,000-ton destroyer Kang Kon.

Kim called for expanding the combat capabilities of the country's Navy and ordered the vessel to enter service within two months.

North Korea recently commissioned the 5,000-ton destroyer Choe Hyon and has laid out plans to build other warships, including larger 10,000-ton vessels.
