The break in the national calendar for the World Cup comes at a time of uncertainty for some players in the Corinthians squad. Among them are striker Gui Negão and midfielder Charles, who have lost space in recent weeks and ended the first half without playing under the command of Fernando Diniz.

The two athletes live in different situations, but they have in common the difficulty in gaining opportunities since the arrival of the new coaching staff. While Gui Negão remains involved in part of the matches, but without taking the field, Charles did not even return to action after recovering from an injury.

In the case of the young striker trained in the youth categories, his last official participation took place on March 22, when he came on during the match against Flamengo, in the Brazilian Championship, still under the command of Dorival Júnior. After that commitment, the player presented himself to the Brazilian Under-20 Team, but ended up suffering an injury during the training period.

After more than a month of recovery, Gui was once again available to the professional squad. Even so, he was unable to resume the sequence of opportunities he had previously received. Since his return, the striker has alternated between being called up to the bench and being absent from the list of related players, without returning to the field.

The situation draws attention especially due to the context of the offensive sector. In the last rounds, Corinthians experienced important absences in the attack due to injuries, call-ups and private issues of some athletes. Still, the base shirt was not contacted by the technical committee.

Gui Negão gained prominence last season by scoring important goals and participating in the campaign that led Corinthians to the 2025 Copa do Brasil title. In 2026, however, the striker lost space and seeks to regain prominence in the main squad.

Who is also going through a similar moment is Charles. The midfielder has not been on the field since the 3-1 defeat to Fluminense, on April 1st, when he was still used by the former coaching staff.

Shortly after that match, the player suffered an injury to his right heel and spent a period of time away for treatment. Even after receiving clearance from the medical department, Charles was not used again and stopped appearing among those listed for the most recent games.

Since Fernando Diniz's arrival, other athletes in the sector have gained opportunities and regained space in the squad. The most obvious example is Alex Santana, who was used again in important matches. Charles, on the other hand, remained out of the coaching staff's plans throughout the final stretch of the first semester.

In addition to the sporting situation, the midfielder was also involved in off-field discussions related to the payment of his transfer fees to Midtjylland, from Denmark. The theme, however, has no direct relationship with its use on the field.

With the 3 x 1 victory over Grêmio, last Saturday (30), Corinthians ended their participation before the calendar break. The cast will receive vacation and will return later for the preparation period aimed at continuing the season.

The interruption of competitions could represent a new opportunity for Gui Negão and Charles. With more weeks of training under the command of Fernando Diniz, both will have the chance to find space and convince the technical committee before the official resumption of the championships in the second semester.

Before the return of the Brazilian Championship, Corinthians will still play preparatory friendlies during the interseason, a period that could serve as an observation for players who had few opportunities throughout the first months of 2026.
