No lasting agreement can be reached by force, Iran says at UN

Iran's ambassador to the UN (United Nations), Amir Saeid Iravani, stated this Wednesday (10) that no lasting agreement can be reached by force and called on US President Donald Trump to stop threatening Iran.

In a speech to the UN Security Council titled "Advancing Political Solutions in the Middle East through Mediation and Dialogue", Iravani said: "No lasting agreement can be reached through threats, intimidation or the use of force", according to the official Iranian news agency IRNA.

"The President of the United States must refrain from his repeated threats against Iran, including the renewed threat to resort to the use of force that he made today," Iravani said.

Trump said on Wednesday that the United States would resume attacks on Iran after what he described as insufficient progress in negotiations to end the war.

"We're going to hit them, hit them very hard," Trump said in the Oval Office.

He also suggested that Iran's downing of a US Army Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday could justify further attacks.

"Based on the helicopter, I think we have the right to do that," he told reporters.

New attacks
In the early evening of this Wednesday, CENTCOM (US Central Command) stated that the United States began new attacks against multiple targets in Iran for the second day in a row.

CENTCOM justified the strikes as a response to "Iran's continued unjustified aggression."

"U.S. Central Command forces began launching additional self-defense strikes today at 5:15 p.m. ET against multiple targets in Iran on orders from the Commander in Chief. The strikes are a response to Iran's continued unwarranted aggression."
