More than three decades after the emergence of The Cardigans, Nina Persson believes that the band's greatest legacy lies precisely in its ability to cross generations without losing its identity. In an interview, the singer reflected on the Swedish group's trajectory and commented on how their songs continue to be discovered by new listeners. According to Persson, one of the factors that helped The Cardigans stay relevant was the decision to never just follow current trends. Although they achieved enormous commercial success in the 1990s, the members always sought to experiment with different musical styles. The band emerged in 1992, in the city of Jönköping, Sweden, initially focusing on a mix of indie pop, jazz, soul and alternative rock. International recognition came a few years later with the album "First Band on the Moon", released in 1996. It was from this album that "Lovefool" was born, a song that became a worldwide phenomenon after being featured on the soundtrack of the film "Romeo + Juliet", directed by Baz Luhrmann. The song reached the charts in several countries and introduced the group to the general public. Although "Lovefool" became their biggest commercial success, Nina highlights that The Cardigans always tried to show other facets of their work. Albums such as "Gran Turismo" and "Long Gone Before Daylight" revealed a more mature sound, with influences from rock and folk. The singer also commented that she feels proud to realize that many young people continue to discover the band through streaming platforms, social networks and films and series that use their music. Even without releasing new albums for several years, The Cardigans remain one of the most important bands in Scandinavian pop music, influencing artists of different styles. For Nina Persson, this recognition demonstrates that good songs can overcome fads and remain relevant long after their release.
