Neymar ends his career with the Seleção with tears, accumulating failures and injuries
Brazil's number 10 shirt in the World Cup, Neymar ended his career with the Brazilian team in World Cups, accumulating injuries and eliminations.
In his fourth appearance, the striker played for a few minutes against Scotland, in the group stage, and came on in the 23rd minute of the second half in the 2-1 defeat to Norway, in the round of 16, scoring the goal of honor from a penalty kick.
He left the field crying and ended his World Cup history with nine goals. "I tried, I tried. Now it's over. I started here (at the Metlife Stadium), I closed it here", said the number 10 in an interview with Ge TV.
What Neymar's performance was like against Norway
With just over 30 minutes on the field against the Norwegians, Neymar produced little and watched Haaland's two goals from the box.
At the end of the match, 55 minutes into the second half, number 10 took and converted the penalty. Before and after the kick, the experienced 34-year-old player exchanged provocations with goalkeeper Orjen Nyland.
At the final whistle from North American referee Ismail Elfath, he fell to the pitch crying and had to be consoled by his teammates.
Neymar's last goal for the national team had been scored 1,030 days ago, in the 5-1 victory over Bolivia, on September 8, 2023, in the World Cup qualifiers.
With the goal against the Norwegians, number 10 reached 80 goals for Brazil. He is the highest scorer in the country's history in official games.

Neymar's four World Cups
Neymar's first World Cup was in 2014, in Brazil. The striker ended up out of the competition after suffering a harsh challenge from Zúñiga, in the duel against Colombia, in the quarter-finals, and did not participate in the 7-1 defeat to Germany, in the semi-finals.
In that World Cup, he scored four goals.
In 2018, Neymar had to undergo surgery on the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, in March, and arrived at the World Cup still looking for the best physical shape for PSG. The team led by Tite was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Belgium, 2-1. The number 10 scored two goals in that edition.
In 2022, Neymar suffered an injury to his right ankle in his debut against Serbia and was left out of the games against Switzerland and Cameroon, still in the group stage. Back in the knockout stages, he scored Brazil's goal in a 1-1 draw with Croatia. Tite's team ended up eliminated on penalties, 4-2.
Neymar would be the fifth taker, but he didn't hit. In addition to the goal against Croatia, he also scored against South Korea.

2026 cycle with many injuries
In this edition, Neymar was one of the main doubts before being called up for the World Cup, as he had not been called up once by Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Still, he was confirmed among the 26 players who represented Brazil at the World Cup.
Despite being called up, the striker was left out of the debut against Morocco, in the 1-1 draw, and also the 3-0 victory over Haiti. He has not yet played in the round of 32 against Japan, when Brazil won 2-1.
The absence was due to an injury to his right calf, suffered during the Brazilian Championship, in the match against Coritiba, on March 17.
