New York streets are evacuated after columns of building under construction bend
A block in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood, in New York City (USA), was evacuated this Tuesday morning (7) after the columns of a skyscraper under construction began to collapse. The incident occurred during peak hours and mobilized firefighters, police and emergency teams, who isolated the region as a precaution.
According to authorities, two support beams bent between the 21st and 22nd floors of the 37-story commercial building. The building is on East 42nd Street, one of the busiest in Manhattan.

The Fire Department reported that part of the structure gave way between the 21st and 26th floors, which caused some floors to sink. The pressure on the structure also caused some bricks to detach, which increased the risk of further collapses.
