Navy operation serves 8 thousand people in remote areas of the Amazon

A mission carried out by the Brazilian Navy provided more than 110 thousand healthcare services, reaching more than 8,810 people in remote areas of the Western Amazon, mainly in riverside and isolated communities. Last Tuesday (19), the ship returned to Manaus with the crew, after spending four months sailing and caring for patients.

The action was part of the 26th edition of Operation "Acre XXVI", carried out by the Hospital Assistance Ship (NAsH) "Doctor Montenegro", serving riverside and isolated communities in the Juruá Valley, in the states of Acre and Amazonas, through medical-hospital assistance and humanitarian support actions.

According to the Navy, the mission reaffirms the strategic and humanitarian role in the Amazon.

The "Acre XXVI" initiative carried out more than 110 thousand health procedures, including medical, dental, nursing and laboratory care. In addition, 453,075 medicines were distributed and 57 vaccines were administered. Mammography exams were also part of the initiative, with 1,022 exams carried out in partnership with the NGO Américas Amigas.

The balance of the operation resulted in 8,810 people served.
