NATO chief promises billions of dollars to strengthen alliance

NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, promised this Monday (6) contracts worth "tens of billions of dollars" to reinforce the alliance's defense capabilities, on the eve of an organization summit in Ankara, on Turkey.
"We will announce new contracts worth tens of billions of dollars that will allow us to acquire essential equipment for deterrence and defense", he declared during a press conference in the Turkish capital.

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is an international military alliance formed by countries in North America and Europe. Its main objective is to guarantee the security and mutual defense of its members.
Rutte also addressed the situation in Ukraine.

"As long as Ukrainians continue to defend their sovereignty, allies and partners of NATO must continue to ensure that it receives what it needs", he told the press. The alliance's secretary general also called on "all allies to fully assume their responsibilities."
