"Mystical" chimpanzee becomes a fever after correcting World Cup results

A four-month-old chimpanzee became an attraction during the 2026 World Cup when she bet on the results of England's matches. Jane, who lives in Wingham Wildlife Park, in Kent, England, gained fame on social media for "predicting" the England team's clashes by choosing between team flags before the games.

The dynamics are simple: the handlers place the England flag and the opponent's flag on the ground. The first flag Jane crawls to is considered her prediction for the winner of the match. The videos published by the park quickly went viral and began to be watched by fans during the World Cup.

The chimpanzee was correct, for example, in England's victory over Croatia in the opening match of the World Cup. In the next prediction, however, Jane pointed to an English victory against Ghana, but the match ended in a draw.

In a post on social media, Wingham Wildlife Park joked about the little chimpanzee's fame and released new videos before matches like England x Panama.

The park also reinforces that primates should not be kept as pets and explains that Jane was rejected by her mother at birth. Currently, she receives special care from the team and is undergoing a process of reintegration into the zoo's group of chimpanzees.

According to Holly Whylock, head of the park's primate sector, Jane shows interest in the flags used in games and ended up becoming one of the curious characters of this edition of the World Cup.
