MPRS denounces couple for death of dog "Branquinho" and animal abuse

The Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Sul charged, this Tuesday (26), a couple for the death of the dog known as "Branquinho", which occurred in November 2025 in the Coronel Aparício Borges neighborhood, in Porto Alegre.

According to the complaint, the animal was subjected to extreme violence, being dragged by the neck with a rope and attacked with a pickaxe, which resulted in its death.

The attacks were recorded by monitoring cameras installed in the residence of the accused, with images showing the animal's suffering and the subsequent disposal of the body.

Investigations indicate that the action was carried out by the woman with direct encouragement from the man and, according to the prosecutor responsible for the complaint, "it was not an isolated fact, but a recurring practice in the domestic environment".

According to the MP, veterinary reports and technical reports corroborate the evidence of systematic mistreatment and neglect. The body also failed to recognize the possibility of offering ANPP (non-criminal prosecution agreement) and highlighted the need for strict criminal liability.

The MPRS also called for the man's preventive detention, pointing out "the risk of repeated criminality, repeated violent behavior and high social danger, evidenced by other records of violence and the seriousness of the conduct investigated".

The woman's arrest was ordered by the 1st Regional Guarantee Court of Porto Alegre on May 13, also at the request of the MPRS.

The definitive loss of custody of the rescued animals was requested and the prohibition of those accused from keeping new animals under their responsibility.

A second complaint filed, this Tuesday (26), calls for the couple to be held responsible for mistreatment of other animals. Including repeated acts of violence, neglect and abuse against various animals.

According to the MPRS complaint, the high number of animals attacked and the severity of the conditions found demonstrate a high degree of reprehensibility of the conduct.

Based on a recent police investigation, the prosecutor points out that until May 4th, the accused kept seven dogs, one cat, three horses and 24 chickens in extremely precarious conditions.

"The animals were subjected to a lack of adequate food, lack of drinking water, an unhealthy environment with accumulation of feces and mud, in addition to severe restrictions on mobility, as in the case of one of the dogs kept on a short chain", maintained the prosecutor.
