Mourão sees electoral pressure and defends debating the end of 6×1 after October

Senator Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS) defended this Thursday (11) that possible changes to working hours in the country be analyzed only after the October elections. To CNN, he stated that there was "electoral pressure" for the text to be approved and highlighted the need for greater debate.

"For me, it should be left for the post-election period, without the pressure that is occurring, as a result of the electoral process, to which several colleagues, the vast majority, are being subjected", he said.

In the senator's view, the deputies were "swallowed by the whirlwind of the moment" and pressured to approve the end of the 6×1 scale, especially due to the popular appeal of the proposal. Considered an electoral asset, the matter is a priority for the government and has the support of the Chamber's leadership.

"The subject was very poorly inserted in an election year. Clearly, an instrument of pressure on parliamentarians, especially in the Chamber, where everyone is renewing mandates", declared Mourão.

The text was approved by the Chamber of Deputies on May 27 and reached the Senate the following day. However, at a time of bad relations with the government, the president of the House, senator Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), has not yet forwarded the proposal.

"I see that deadlines are tight for the PEC [Proposed Amendment to the Constitution] to run correctly. Because of this, we may have the best solution, which is to work after the election, without pressure from the electoral process", reinforced Mourão.

He also defended the so-called alternative PEC, sponsored by the opposition, which creates a new work regime with remuneration for hours worked. The text was presented in the Senate, with support from Mourão, to counter the PEC at the end of the 6×1 approved in the Chamber.

For the senator, contractual freedom is "fundamental". Therefore, he assesses that the PEC at the end of 6×1 "stifles" the relationship between boss and employee.

For the proceedings in the Senate, the senator assesses that Alcolumbre is "more cautious" and will know how to create the environment for negotiations between the opposition and government members. "May the one with the greatest conviction and the greatest number of votes win", he concluded.
