Motta officially announces loss of mandate for deputies Paulão and Dayany Bittencourt

In an extra edition of the Diário da Câmara, the president of the house, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), decreed the loss of the mandate of deputies Paulão (PT-AL) and Dayany Bittencourt (União-CE).

The decision, which took place last Thursday (9), results from the annulment of votes received by two other parliamentarians by the Electoral Court and the consequent review of the electoral quotient, which defines the number of votes needed to elect a candidate, in the 2022 election.

In the case of the Alagoas bench, the change was due to the impeachment of João Catunda (PP-AL), for the practice of illicitly raising funds for campaign financing. With the new electoral quotient established, there was a change in the distribution of seats in the Chamber that resulted in Paulão losing his mandate.

In his place, deputy Nivaldo Albuquerque (Republicanos-AL) was sworn in.

On the occasion of Ceará, deputy Heitor Freire (União-CE) was impeached by the electoral court for illicit campaign fundraising and expenses. Likewise, the decision led to a change in the composition of the state bench in the Chamber and Priscila Costa (PL-CE) took over the vacancy left by Dayany Bittencourt.

In a note, the PT bench in the Chamber expressed "nonconformity" with the decision and showed solidarity with Paulão, who, according to the party, was "the victim of a judicial decision made in favor of the political and economic elites of his State". The party also states that it will appeal to the STF (Supreme Federal Court) against the decision.

Dayany Bittencourt published a video on her social networks after the decision. In the publication, the congresswoman says that she suffers gender-based political violence and that they also seek to target her husband, Captain Wagner (União-CE), pre-candidate for the Senate. "This only happens because Wagner is in first place in all the Senate polls and he is fighting against the powerful."
