Ana Candida Évora, mother of Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha, arrived in the United States this Friday (19) to see her son play in the 2026 World Cup.
On Wednesday (17), she traveled from her city, São Vicente, to the capital of Cape Verde, Praia, to complete the necessary documentation to travel to the United States.

Ana Candida, who gained sudden fame after her son lamented that her mother missed her son's debut in the World Cup because she was unable to obtain a North American visa, was helped by several authorities to speed up the process.
To the news agency Reuters, Vozinha's brother, Davidson Evora, who is also a goalkeeper, said that the president of the Cape Football Federation Verde, Mario Semedo, resolved all the procedures with FIFA and US government officials to make this surprise for the star of the national team:
"The documents have been regularized and, practically, everything is ready. We just need to get there and I think everything will be resolved."

Vozinha, aged 40, became one of the stars of the tournament after helping Cape Verde to a draw 0-0 against Spain in the country's World Cup debut on June 15. The goalkeeper was voted best on the field and became emotional when talking about his mother's absence.
If everything goes well, Ana Candida will be present at her son's next game, in Cape Verde's match against Uruguay, in Miami, on the 21st.
Davidson, who went to say goodbye to his mother at the airport alongside his sister, Gisilene, told Reuters that the sudden international attention generated by Vozinha's performance in the World Cup changed the family's life overnight.
