Morocco fears losing two starters for their debut against Brazil in the World Cup

The Moroccan national team is following with concern the physical situation of two starters on the eve of their World Cup debut. Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and Noussair Mazraoui suffered injuries in the friendly against Norway and could be missing from the team in the opening match of the World Cup against Brazil, scheduled for Saturday (13).

The two players left the field during the 1-1 draw with the Norwegians, in the Moroccan team's last test before the start of the competition, which will be played in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Ezzalzouli was substituted at half-time after suffering a leg injury. Mazraoui left the field in the 29th minute of the first half due to a shoulder problem. The duel was balanced: Morocco opened the scoring early on, but saw Norway tie the match 15 minutes from the end.

Despite the result, the Moroccan coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, highlighted positive aspects of the performance.

"We left a good impression despite not winning, because we showed very good things against a very strong opponent", said the coach.

Ouahbi also explained that he made several changes during the match to manage the physical load on the squad.

"That's the goal of facing teams at this level. When you make so many changes [10 in total], it can be difficult for the players, but it was important to control everyone's playing time," he said.

The coach, however, admitted that his main concern is related to injuries.

"Two players were injured. We are waiting to assess the severity of the problems. That is what worries me most," he added.

Surprise in the last World Cup by reaching the semi-finals, Morocco arrives at the 2026 tournament with the expectation of repeating a standout campaign. The team is part of Group D and will make its debut against Brazil at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
