Model denounces racism and physical aggression in elevator in downtown Rio

Model and influencer Maynara Bittencourt reported, on social media, that she was a victim of racism inside an elevator in the center of Rio de Janeiro, this Saturday (30). In addition to being called a "monkey" and a "slum dweller", she claims to have suffered physical attacks.

The influencer stated that, upon leaving work, she got into an elevator with another woman, who allegedly started a series of racist insults. In addition to the verbal insults, Maynara reports that she was physically attacked, suffering scratches while trying to record the situation on video and the other woman trying to take her cell phone.

The case was registered at the 4th DP (Presidente Vargas), in the early hours of Saturday (30), and forwarded to the 1st DP (Praça Mauá), which will continue the investigations - Reproduction / @eunarao
The model also stated that, after the episode, she sought out a police unit, but did not receive the care she considered appropriate for a person who had just been the victim of a crime.

"I'm sharing this story because silence protects aggressors. Racism is not an opinion, it's not a joke, it's not a misunderstanding. Racism is a crime!", declared Maynara.

Agents from the Public Order Secretariat (Seop) were called by pedestrians to respond to the incident on Rua dos Andradas. At the scene, they found two women arguing. After the approach and faced with completely contradictory versions of what happened, both were taken to the 4th DP to record the incident.

Regarding the allegation of delay in service, the Civil Police clarified that the recording of the incident and the hearings of those involved lasted approximately two hours. The institution highlighted that the police stations simultaneously respond to several incidents of different natures and degrees of complexity.

According to the corporation, agents carry out essential technical procedures for the correct formalization of the facts, ensuring adequate reception of the parties and the correct provision of services to citizens.
