Ministers say bilateral between Lula and Trump has not yet been scheduled

Ministers Sidônio Palmeira (Secretariat of Communication) and Márcio Elias Rosa (Industry and Commerce) stated, this Wednesday (10), that the meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, during the G7 meeting in France, is still uncertain.

The Brazilian government organizes a meeting to prevent the tariffs from coming into force. Despite this, no contact was made with Trump.

"The president didn't care. [The bilateral] could happen there because the G7 is small, but there's nothing scheduled," said Sidônio Palmeira.

When asked by journalists about the possibility of the meeting, minister Elias Rosa said: "He doesn't know yet [if he will meet with Donald Trump]. Brazil is invited, so the delegation is more restricted."

The statements were given by the ministers at the opening of the meeting of the Council for Sustainable Economic Social Development, the Council.

The American government proposed the application of a 25% tariff for alleged unfair practices in the relationship between Brazil and the United States, as well as 12.5% for countries that do not prohibit forced labor. Since then, the government has been studying ways to demand that the United States desist from imposing new trade tariffs.

Brazil will participate in the meeting that brings together the seven largest economies in the world at the invitation of France. This will be the tenth time that the country participates in the G7.

As CNN showed, in addition to the possibility of a meeting with Trump, the president's aides see Lula as an opportunity to defend sovereignty again in a global forum.
