Mine collapses in China and leaves five dead and one injured

A mine shaft - the main tunnel or vertical access from the surface - collapsed in China in the early hours of Sunday (31), local time, during an illegal mining operation in Yunnan province, in the southwest of the country.
At least five people died and one was injured, according to Chinese state media. There is no information about what type of mineral was extracted at the site. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
The collapse comes just days after a gas explosion that left at least 82 people dead in Shanxi province and marks yet another accident that raises questions about the safety of the country's mining activity.

In this case, in addition to the deaths, two people are still missing and another 128 were injured. The gas explosion happened in a coal mine and was the country's deadliest mining accident since 2009.
Chinese authorities have promised a thorough investigation into the accident after preliminary findings indicated unmarked tunnels, missing trackers and fake structures at the site.
