Military plane crash leaves five dead in India; photo shows wreckage

An Indian military transport plane crashed this Saturday (13) at an Air Force base in the northeast of the country and left five people dead, the Army said in a statement.
"The Indian Air Force deeply regrets the death of five soldiers in the crash of a plane in Jorhat," the agency said. "An investigation has been ordered to determine the causes of the accident."
The Indian Air Force has released the identity of the victims:
Squadron Leader Prashant Singh;
Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar;
Sergeant Jitendra Sharma;
and Air Force Soldiers Khemaram Kumawat and Danish Alam.
"They made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The Indian Air Force expresses its sincerest condolences to the bereaved families and affirms who remains by their side in this moment of pain", states the post.

In 2019, another Antonov AN-32 [aircraft model] that took off from the Jorhat base crashed near the border with China, an accident that caused 13 deaths.
The Indian Air Force has almost 100 examples of the old Russian-made twin-engine model that are still in operation.
