♬ With a deep bass-baritone voice, Tim Maia (1942 - 1988) was a performer capable of recording other people's songs with such skill that everyone thought the composition was his own, Tim.
It was like that with the recording of the song "O Descobridor dos Sete Mares", the title track of the album released by the singer in 1983. Festive, the funk "O Descobridor dos Sete Mares" was an immediate success and crossed generations in Tim's original recording and also in re-recordings by Lulu Santos and Monobloco, among other names.
In reality, the composition was written by two advertisers, Michel and Gilson Mendonça, both determined to make a name for themselves in the world of music and both also authors of "Neves e parques", another song from the album "O Descobridor dos Sete Mares".
In the birth certificate, issued in 1946, Michel was Miguel Leite de Oliveira Neto, a composer who died on Friday, June 26, at the age of 80, victim of complications resulting from cancer, diabetes and stroke. Michel was admitted to the Azevedo Lima State Hospital, in Niterói (RJ), and was laid to rest and buried on Saturday, June 27, at Memorial Parque Nycteroy, in São Gonçalo (RJ).
The overwhelming success of "The Discoverer of the Seven Seas" boosted the career of the debutant composer. In the following year, 1984, Michel recorded "Não dada" - a partnership with a composer identified as Carlão - in the charts on the group's album Roupa Nova.
Also in 1984, Tim Maia would record with relative success the ballad "Bons Momentos" - this one signed by Michel with Marcos Cardoso - on the album "Sufocante", an album in which the singer also gave voice to another partnership between Michel and Gilson Mendonça, "Ga-gaguejando", this one without repercussion.
Tim Maia was the great voice of Michel's work. In 1986, the singer recorded two songs by Michel and Marcos Cardoso, the romantic ballads "Preciosa" and "Pudera", on the album titled "Tim Maia". On the following album, "Somos América", released in 1987, Tim recorded another new composition by the duo, "Onde está Você", another sentimental ballad, lined with keyboards, as was Tim Maia's taste in the 1980s. seas".
