MG: Former player Jô is arrested for the fifth time for child support debt

Former football player João Alves de Assis Silva, known as Jô, was arrested in the early hours of this Sunday (14) in a nightclub in the Castelo neighborhood, in Belo Horizonte, capital of Minas Gerais.

According to the police report, Jô had an open arrest warrant issued by the 3rd Family and Succession Court of Itaquera for non-payment of child support.

Other arrests
This is the fifth time that the former player has been arrested for child support debt. The last arrest had taken place in November 2025, in Rio de Janeiro.

The other judicial compliances occurred one in June last year and another two in 2024. In 2025, he was detained at Guarulhos Airport, in the state of São Paulo.

The previous year, in May 2024, Jô was located in Campinas, during a match for Amazonas FC, while, in December, the arrest occurred when he was playing for Itabirito Futebol Clube, in Contagem, Minas Gerais.

Jô's Career
Jô, left-handed striker, began his career as a football player in Corinthians' youth teams. The athlete has played for clubs such as CSKA Moscow, from Russia, Manchester City and Everton, from England, and also played in Japanese football. Furthermore, he played for other Brazilian clubs: Internacional, Atlético-MG, Ceará, Amazonas and Itabirito.

For the Brazilian Football Team, Jô was part of the squad that participated in the 2014 World Cup, held in Brazil. He scored no goals in the competition.

According to football statistics websites, the former player scored 225 goals, 66 for Corinthians alone, and 73 assists throughout his career.
