Mexican tourist is attacked during robbery in Copacabana

A Mexican tourist was seriously injured after being attacked during a robbery on the Copacabana waterfront, in the south of Rio de Janeiro, last Tuesday (8). The man was hit in the head during the criminal action and had to postpone his return to Mexico due to his injuries.

The attack was recorded by people who were at the scene, and the images began to circulate on social media. In a video published later, tourist Ilama Kevin described how the crime happened, stated that he tried to react to the criminals' approach and thanked him for the assistance he received after the case. He also highlighted the role of the Military Police during the incident.

According to reports, Ilama Kevin was walking along Avenida Atlântica accompanied by other Mexican tourists when the group was approached and threatened by criminals. During the approach, there was a physical struggle and one of the robbers hit the victim in the head with a bottle.

The Military Police reported that teams from the 19th BPM (Copacabana) were called to respond to the incident. When they arrived at the scene, the police were informed that the suspects had threatened tourists and then fled.

During searches in the region, agents found a seriously injured man. The tourist received treatment and was taken to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital. The case was forwarded to Deat (Tourism Support Office). Shortly afterwards, one of the suspects was located and detained.

The Civil Police reported that the victim has already given a statement and that investigations continue to identify the others involved and clarify the dynamics of the crime.
