On June 28, the band packed out the Principality Stadium in Cardiff with an impressive 76,000 fans, setting the record for the biggest attendance at a music event in Welsh history. It was their first show in the country in 30 years! Using the in-the-round format, they took advantage of all the stands in the stadium, surpassing previous records by Ed Sheeran (75 thousand) and U2 (73 thousand). Fans waited decades and showed up in droves to celebrate the kings of thrash metal. The show became even more epic with an explosive cover of 'Delilah', a Tom Jones classic, the stadium's unofficial anthem (recently banned due to themes of domestic violence). Metallica brought the anthem back with energy, delighting the crowd.
